Taiwan Innovation Connection | Global Industry Export: Industry Forum on Scaling from Small Firm to Large Enterprise

The forum did not ask how to start a company, but why some companies scale while others stay small.

Cover of the industry forum “From small company to large enterprise”

Background

The forum was one of the events of the Taiwan Innovation Connection · Global Industry Export exhibition. Rather than showcasing single companies, the exhibition was organized by alliance: the Semiconductor, Automotive Components, Digital Industry and Health & Wellness alliances presented Taiwan’s innovation together at Nangang Exhibition Center Hall 2.

The question

The forum did not ask how to start a company, but why some companies scale while others stay small. Three business owners and one speaker on business experience answered from their own track records.

Business leaders on the panel

The chairmen of three companies: 蕭哲君 (采威國際), 吳騰彥 (微程式) and 詹文雄 (新應材).

Sharing business experience

曾國棟, Chief Sustainability Officer of WPG Holdings, chairman of Yosun Group and chair of MISA (中華經營智慧分享協會).

What the forum was

"From Small Company to Large Enterprise: Breaking the Frame" was the large forum of the Taiwan Innovation Connection · Global Industry Export exhibition. It took place on 19 March 2026 in Room 701 at Nangang Exhibition Center Hall 2, and has now been held. It was written for founders, SME owners and anyone assessing how Taiwanese companies grow.

The panel had three business owners and one speaker on management experience. Each answered the same question from their own record: why do some companies scale up while others stay at small or medium size? This page sets out the question, the shape of the panel and the material worth reading next, for readers who did not attend. It is a record of the forum's framing and participants, and it is kept under Past Program Outcomes with the other held events.

The question the forum asked

The organisers framed the question carefully. It was not "how do you start a company?" It was why some companies scale while others stay stuck at small or medium size. That moves the focus from the start-up moment to the turning points in a company's growth.

Owners can use the question as a check on their own business. Three ways to read it follow. Does the company's place in its supply chain change as it grows? Do its customers and markets widen beyond a single source? Do its organisation and decision-making keep pace with volume?

The panel was built around practising owners rather than consultants or academics. Answers therefore come from the path each company actually took. Readers should compare them with their own sector and size instead of applying them directly. A materials maker, a systems integrator and a service provider face different limits on growth, and the same advice will not fit all three.

How the panel was built

The three owners are chairmen of 采威國際, 微程式 and 新應材. Their businesses sit in different places in the economy. 采威國際 is an ICT integrator in central Taiwan offering AI solutions, cloud services and systems integration, and helping SMEs with digital and net-zero transition. It is a member of the Digital Industries Alliance.

MicroProgram works in electronic payments, smart devices and semiconductor sensing and control systems integration. Shin-Yi Materials develops and produces specialty chemicals for semiconductors and displays, including advanced-process and CIS image sensor materials. Both belong to the Semiconductor Localization Alliance, and all three firms are publicly listed. The mix covers a services business, a systems business and a materials business, which is a useful spread for a question about scale, because growth constraints differ by business model: capacity and capital in materials, talent and project pipeline in integration, and customer reach in services. That comparison is ours, offered as a prompt for reading.

The fourth speaker shared business experience. The speaker is Chief Sustainability Officer of WPG Holdings, chairman of the Yosun Group and chair of MISA, the Chinese-language management-wisdom association. Together the four let one question be viewed from systems integration, materials manufacturing and group management.

The exhibition and alliance setting

The forum belonged to the Taiwan Innovation Connection · Global Industry Export exhibition, staged within a smart city exhibition. It was not built around single-company stands. Instead the Semiconductor, Automotive Components, Digital Industries and Health & Wellness alliances presented Taiwan's capability together at Nangang Exhibition Center Hall 2, with the aim of taking system-level solutions to international markets.

The alliance membership terms show the roles that firms of different sizes play. Large and mid-sized companies set out market needs, take part in challenge-setting and supply-chain integration, and help smaller firms upgrade. SMEs and start-ups join training and certification, go through supplier selection, and run solution validation and business talks, which can lead into supply chains and investment.

Reading these roles beside the forum question is useful, but the link is ours. We have no record of whether the panel discussed alliance mechanisms. For member structure and sub-sectors, see the Semiconductor Localization Alliance and Digital Industries Alliance pages.

Who should read this, and what to read next

Three groups gain most. SME owners weighing expansion can test their own situation against the question. Founders can see which choices tend to arise on a growth path. Overseas investors and buyers can see how Taiwanese business leaders frame growth, and which kinds of company were on the panel. The page gives them the names of the firms and the roles of the speakers, so that they can look for the companies on the alliance pages.

Other sessions from the same exhibition, including courses from the Semiconductor Cybersecurity Academy, are listed under the innovation and entrepreneurship events. Held sessions are collected in Past Program Outcomes. Current and upcoming events are on the Events and Registration page.

To take the topic to sector level, read the alliance outcomes and alliance pages for the member companies' businesses and value-chain positions. (the Association) will route it to the right alliance. State your organisation, your purpose and the part of the forum that interests you, so that the request can be handled in one exchange.
